Wallace Shetland Roving
Wallace Shetland Roving
4 oz balls of Off White Shetland Roving
Wallace is one of our original 5 Shetlands. He is a light Katmoget, one of the 13 different patterns of shetland sheep. It is characterized by a light back, with dark belly and legs and badger faced markings and dark muzzle. He has super fine, crimpy fleece. He wasn’t our first choice in breeding because of conformation issues, but he had a beautiful fleece so we wethered (castrated) him and he keeps Hamish our ram, company all winter. In May, the boy band reunites with the rest of the flock for the grazing season. Wallace is shy and rather portly.
We shear after lambing and before the weather gets too warm. The fleeces are skirted then sent to Illinois Wool and Fiber Mill for a gentle scouring and then carding into this fluffy roving. It is ready for spinning, felting or other crafting projects. This wool takes dyes wonderfully.
